Wireless Solutions Architect
PACE Research Group, UCSD School of Medicine, San Diego, CA

    Researching and evaluating the effectiveness of mobile phone applications in the areas of obesity and nutrition. Designing and programming J2ME applications enabling teenagers in NIH-funded clinical trials on diabetes prevention to monitor their physical activity and dietary habits. Developing a hardware/software smartphone platform to support health monitoring and active-living research that incorporates wireless sensors such as Bluetooth accelerometers / pedometers, GPS receivers, heart-rate monitors, etc. Ported applications across all popular phones and the 5 national wireless carriers. Lead developer for all handset applications; serves as technical advisor to principal investigators, residents and graduate students; negotiates with carriers on deployment issues. Conducting focus groups with representative users. Writing SBIRs, contract and grant proposals to National Institutes for Health and National Cancer Institute; Exploring commercialization possibilities in conjunction with Center for Health Interventions and Technology.

    Concurrently teaching the Qualcomm BREW software development classes within the Extension School's CDMA and Embedded Engineering program and mentoring ECE/CSE student projects. Also funded by the Von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism to commercialize a family of location-based services for mobile phones and other wireless devices. Provided business development and consulting services to wireless solution providers. Projects include a wireless shopping assistant for phones / PDAs and feasibility studies and prototypes of SMS applications, advertising and mobile coupons.

Wireless Solutions Architect
LiveSky Solutions, Boston, MA

    As the principal developer of mobile solutions for all LiveSky projects, I collaborated with clients to establish their business goal, define their functional requirements, developed the detailed design, the system architecture specification, and wrote the working code (Visual Basic, C, ASP, JSP). Projects included mobile CRM / SFA applications (Palm, PocketPC, WAP phones); wireless-enablement of existing webserver applications such as a web-based appointment and facility scheduling system (Palm, RIM Blackberry); and a retail store locator (WAP, Palm, AvantGo). In a sales engineering role, I developed functional prototypes, proofs-of-concept and marketing demos. Evaluated wireless technologies and partnership opportunities from business, marketing and technical perspectives, and developed Represented company in technical presentations at CEO/CTO/CIO levels.

    Designed a XML database-driven, web-based forms-processing / content management system for multiple devices (PC's, Palms, PocketPCs, WAP phones). Defined the functional requirements in close consultation with client; developed budget, project plan, implementation proposal and legal contract. Created the prototypes of website and administration pages. Supervised the product development, and customer acceptance testing; prioritized and scheduled customer change requests and bug fixes. Served as the customer's primary technical contact. .

    Designed, developed and programmed streaming-media webcasting systems for international tradeshows and events. Orchestrated all technical aspects, including IT infrastructure and telecom procurement, installation and on-site operations. Projects included Hughes Network System's web kiosks at Geneva Telecom'99, PTC's webcam system at CeBIT 2000 (Germany), and John Hancock Financial's network of 70 real-time news and information stations.

    Led a team of 5 programmers; developed the specifications and supervised the implementation of CD-Rom and Web-based customer service / agent training for Delta, Hyatt, AT&T and State Farm Insurance. Developed QA test plans and resolved discrepancies / change requests during customer acceptance testing. Responsible for integration with client's IT departments. Advised clients, account managers and project managers on all technical issues. Provided in-house technical support.

    Conceptualized, designed, specified, programmed and installed large scale, large budget ($1M+) interactive multimedia exhibits at museums and visitor centers, e.g. Smithsonian, Boston Museum of Science, California Science Center, SciTrek, JFK Healthworld, SportsLab, TVA, Army Corps of Engineers, ArtExperienCenter. Specialized in developing the user interaction with multiple handheld devices, touch screens, keypads, pushbutton arrays, sensors, etc. 

    Defined the technology issues, prepared technical responses to RFPs and RFIs, developed budgets and schedules, and conducted client meetings with client's IT team. Projects were often awarded on fixed price, competitive bid. Developed detailed system design documents and technical specifications. Built and field-tested prototypes (look-and-feel and functional) as well as final production code. 

    Oversaw development efforts; advising developers, upper management and clients on issues of project status, risks and problem resolutions. Ordered equipment and facilities; coordinating with multiple vendors. Provided on-site installation, testing, documentation and training.

    While in last year of college, founded a pioneering award-wining multimedia design and programming firm commercializing technologies developed at MIT's precursor to the Media Lab.
